MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Check out the information below about the Back to School Jamboree on September 17 at Indiana University Northwest! There will be FREE school supplies to the first 300 children.

There will also be activities for kids of all ages including a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, dance competition and carnival games.

This event is a great opportunity to meet teachers and fellow students, while taking a walk around the building before the first day of school.

We look forward to seeing fifth graders on August 8 at 4:30 p.m. at Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School! Parents of fifth grade students, please ask your child to bring their device to orientation, as well.

In addition, orientation will also happen that day for our sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at 6 p.m

Dear Families,

As we prepare for the start of the 2022-23 school year, one of our concerns is the use of vaping devices among students. We know that this is an issue many of our families are grappling with, as well.

In an effort to prevent vaping, students will no longer be allowed to wear hooded sweatshirts in our buildings, effective this fall. We have made this decision based on the prevalence of “vaping hoodies,” which allow individuals to secretly use vaping devices.

Please note that students will be able to wear other types of sweatshirts and unhooded jackets, as long as they meet our dress code standards.

We also encourage our parents and guardians to continue to speak with their children about the dangers of vaping. We still know very little about these devices and their long-term health implications. More information and resources for families is available at

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your attention to this important update.

Sandra Brown, Principal

Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School

By next week, all students in all buildings should have received their public library cards from the Lake County Public Library. These cards will allow students access to all digital materials from the public library. They can download books, movies and magazines on to their devices and never be without something to read!
There are no fees associated with these cards.  If students had accrued fees in the past, they will not be excluded from borrowing when using these cards.
Reading is crucial for a student’s success. Let's build stronger readers and learners through the public library system, as well as the libraries at our schools!

Parents: In case you were not able to attend orientation for your child, here is the presentation that was given.  Please make sure to review it prior to the first day of school. Thank you!

NFL Coaching Legend Jim Caldwell to Speak at Lake Ridge New Tech Opening Day

Jim Caldwell, a two-time Super Bowl champion and former NFL head coach, will speak at the Lake Ridge New Tech Schools’ Opening Day for staff on Tuesday, August 16.

Caldwell is best known for serving as head coach of the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts, a team he led to a Super Bowl appearance in 2009. He also was a long-time assistant coach in the NFL, as well as a renowned assistant at the college level.

“Jim Caldwell has been a great coach for me, a great friend for me, a great resource, ally—he was a great fundamental teacher for me…” said Peyton Manning, a Hall of Fame quarterback coached by Caldwell. “He appreciates doing the little things right and he had a big influence on me.”

Caldwell earned Super Bowl rings as assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2005 and as interim offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens in 2012. He has a career head coaching record of 62-50, including four playoff appearances.

Staff will attend a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on August 16, followed by the ceremony featuring Caldwell at 8:30 a.m.

“We are thrilled that Jim Caldwell will be speaking at our Opening Day. His success in leading teams at the highest level will surely inspire our staff,” said Dr. Sharon Johnson-Shirley, Superintendent. “It’s my hope that Coach Caldwell’s speech will set the mood for this school year. Top-tier leadership leads to top-tier results. We cannot wait to get the school year started.”

The first day of school for Lake Ridge New Tech students is Wednesday, August 17.
